Skating – Part I

Okay, if you haven’t figured it out by now, I roller skate – old school, quads, indoors. I also rollerblade, but those are my go to skates for outdoors. This is a recreational, hobby, and exercise sport for me. I get to meet new people, exercise, and dance all in one activity. These are all win-wins, since it combines my loves. Every since I can remember, I’ve loved to dance. I was in a few dance troupes growing up, but it was nothing that I ever pursued. Once I became an adult, I loved expressing myself through dance mainly at clubs, and after I had my child, I started taking hip-hop classes as a way to get my dance on. That lasted for about three years, and eventually I realized that my knees were not going to hold up. Then I re-discovered skating, I skated when I was a teenager, but I was never really good at it, mainly because I found it more interesting to chat it up with the fellas, that were also at the rink. So in August of 2007, I thought it might be fun if my son and I could have a recreational activity that we could both do together, and with the urging of my girlfriend Lucy, we tried skating. My son, a natural unfortunately does not enjoy it at all, but I’ve stuck with it, and now I am a bona-fide skater. Like a golfer, or cyclist, I’ve invested in my sport to obtain the right equipment, and it’s very rewarding and I get the benefits of being able exercise why I...

Nothing in Particular

So I’m having writer’s block already, and I haven’t even finished out a full week of blogging. Anyway, today I was on a never ending call with someone who obviously can hold a conversation by herself, because I didn’t have to speak at all and the conversation lasted three hours, I have to say it was longest three hours of my life. I was in a training class remotely, so I was listening half way, which is a trend for me, unfortunately there is a test, the horror. I must now review everything that was spoken to me, why the pain and suffering I don’t know. Anyhow, I have been wondering why I hear women say that there are no good men out there. I wish women would stop saying that, because I believe that you get what you speak, so I will never utter those words, and also I know too many upstanding black men to ever repeat such non-sense. Now, most of these women that say these things, are women with confidence issues. How do you teach confidence??? I’m very confident, and I believe it comes from God, knowing oneself, and loving oneself. I love me some me…I just wish I could help other women see the light. This will be a work in progress, I’ll update you on the...

Bday Celebration and Skating

So last night, I went to Benihana’s to celebrate my nephews birthday. My sweetie, El ordered sushi, and I should have taken his lead because we needed to leave early, but instead I order shrimp and chicken. Wow, that was a mistake…honestly, why do you cook the chicken last??? It doesn’t take that long to cook, and I want to eat my food all together. I know call me weird, but that’s just how I am. Just so there is no mistaking, I know how it works at Benihana’s this was not my first time at the rodeo, but it had been about two years and I guess I keep forgetting that ordering seafood is always faster. Hmmm…it had been two years prior to last night, maybe that should tell me something. Okay on to the celebration – good food (albeit cold), good conversation, good friends, and family – I’ll rate my experience as PRICELESS. So dinner was done, and El and I hustled over to the rink for some much needed cardio. After skating, and getting our sweat on we were approached by a stranger who commented on our skating style and how he felt we expressed our love through our skating – okay I’m listening…He then asked if we were married – “uh no”, El piped up. Well how long have you been dating, he asked. Three years, El’s reply. Wow, I had nothing to say – and this stranger actually quoted a song – If you don’t know me by now – hmmm, I think – Am I being punked??? Well the conversation got more interesting...

Happy Born Day Tony!!!

Today is my nephew Tony’s birthday. He’s somewhere in his thirties, which makes me older, boy how time flies. What can I say about my nephew – he’s kind, honest, and he’s a good friend. It’s always comforting to know that I can call him at any time and get honest feedback. That’s nice because I know he has my best interest at heart. I guess you can say he’s one of my favorites. Anyway, we’ll be meeting for dinner this evening and I look forward to spending that time with my family and new friends. Which makes me want to discuss the importance of family, and how wonderful it is to know that in this world there are people who know you better than anyone, been with you through thick and thin, and love you through all of your faults. FAMILY equals LOVE, tell someone in your family that you love them. Till next...

Valentine’s Day – Part 2

For For Valentine’s Day I went out to eat at Big Chow Grill. Although I had heard about the restaurant, I had yet to experience it. Well, let me just tell you, it was not at all what I expected. We decided to sit at the bar because we had somewhere else to go, and the 30 minute wait for a seat seemed too long. At the bar, which was very empty, we were greeted by the bartender, who explained quickly how it works – go to the line, grab a black bowl put everything in it you want in your stir fry, then get a bowl for your protein. Basically, it’s an all you can eat place stir-fry place, but the kicker is you select the items you want to add to your stir-fry, and hand it over to a grill master. Now, this idea at first sounded fun, and I was gunho. I got my black bowl, filled it with brown rice, snow peas, carrots, bean sprouts, baby corn, broccoli, and mushrooms, and added Hunan and soy sauces to that bowl. I then picked up my protein bowl, and added chicken and some Hunan seasoning. I handed both bowls over to the grill master, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. When I received my cooked food back in a red bowl it was not that tasty, probably because I had the wrong combination of seasoning and sauces. Well not to be daunted, I tried again, this time with the help of the bartender and a card with all the ingredients checked of what she felt...

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

This is my first blog, and what a great day to start, on the day for love. Well, my day so far started at midnight as I was driving home from skating with my sweetie and he wished me Happy Valentine’s day at the exact stroke of midnight. He must have been watching the clock like a hawk in order to pull that off, because I had been chatting incessantly about some subject that I no longer recall, probably all about my new skates and how I need to adjust them again, anyway I digress…I was thinking how sweet it was of him, and I responded in kind, and then I commenced to tell him how people now spend more money on their friends, co-workers, and family for Valentine’s Day than they do on their significant other. I think the figure was $98 for friends, co-workers, and family, vs. $77 for significant other. Now I remembered why I love working from home, I’m saving money, I have no co-workers to buy gifts for, contribute to their wedding, baby-shower, birthday cake, etc., and no more group lunches where people conveniently forget to pay for their appetizers. But, back to the subject at hand, Valentine’s day represents a lot of things to many people, and I hope this day brings you much joy, happiness, and...
